Brooklyn based Prospect Mining studio announced 15 startups part of their first cohort. Prospect Mining studio is a partnership between the Vimson Group and New Lab, and they are enabling early stage companies get easier access to the mining ecosystem. More here
Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) developed a compact laser based scanner that enables workers to map out mine complexes from the surface. More here and here
Mines are prioritizing digital transformation and this article by Ranconteur provides a great set of examples of mines that are using automation tech to drive efficiency. Couple things that stood out for us:
Despite being a geologically rich country, mining industry accounts for 2-3% of India's GDP. Creating a digitally enabled environment is a potential way to improve the mining output in India but that faces some key challenges. More here
💰Investments
Novamera, developer of tech to process ore from narrow vein deposits, raised an undisclosed amount from Chrysalix RoboValley Fund. Novamera spun out of Anaconda mining, and was a finalist at Disrupt Mining 2019. More here
